Science and God

MSNBC recently published an article about the schism between science and God. Many scientists believe there needs to be a change to the concept of God for it to cope with science, but I have no idea why. Nothing about my belief in God contradicts anything in science whatsoever, but this article makes it sound like science and God contradict each other. The bigger problem is that many scientists(about 60% according to the article) don't believe in God, believing instead that science disproves His existence.

Proving that a process can recreate itself does not disprove the existence of an original cause to the process. Saying science disproves God is like saying the fact that a tree can drop a seed and birth another tree means there is no such thing as a gardner. God is a lot like that gardner. Fully capable of planting new seed, ripping out plants by the roots, and nurturing growing plants so that they are healthier. Just because nature can take care of itself doesn't mean there aren't in...

Grand Theft Auto: 4

While most reviewers are giving it a 100%, I would not go so far as to say it deserves this score. Is it the best GTA ever made? Probably. Is it the best game ever made? No I don't think so.

In fact, GTA has competition these days. Saint's Row is a very similar game, but Saint's Row offers a lot of gameplay features that still aren't present in GTA. GTA offers a much better story and better gameplay, along with better multiplayer. But to give GTA 5 stars, I'd have to see it at least match the features the competition offers, on top of the whole package.

The game is not slow. You always have something to do. Some of those things you have to do may in themselves be boring though. There is a friend system where you try to please certain people by hanging out with them and eventually they help you out in a way, like cheaper guns. This involves bowling, pool, darts, drinking, etc. The mini-games were well done and didn't feel like they were just tossed in. Bowling kind of works like i...

Iron Man

If you are a super hero fan, I shouldn't have to do any convincing to get you to watch this. If you like action movies, hey it's got all that and more.

To be honest, the only weakness I saw in the whole movie was the obvious intention of forcing the audience to hate Tony Stark first, then force them to love him. At least it was obvious to me, but it probably went WAY over the heads of most of the rest of the audience. For some reason, people thought this was a children's movie. It reaked of something that I could only hope was not fully loaded diapers. I don't know why all these mothers thought this was a children's movie... I mean the main actor is Robert Downey Jr.... you'd think that'd be hint

Sunshine

This movie is like a mix of Armageddon and Event Horizon. It was kind of strange and odd, but kept my attention the whole time. The premise is that the sun is no longer providing the necessary heat to keep the Earth warm and we have slipped into a perpetual winter. The mission of the crew you watch through the movie is to deliver a massive bomb to the sun in order to get it working like it should. The mission is based entirely on theory, but it is apparently their "last best hope," although you find out very soon it is in fact the 2nd attempt.

I liked it. It's got the drama you need for a compelling story and the horror isn't as awful as Event Horizon(another movie I

It's a free arcade racer. The graphics are good, the game is fun. It's a good way to waste time and it's surprisingly growing in popularity fast around my online friends. You can create your own tracks, fairly easily. You can repaint and customise your car. You have a rank and standing in the world, in your country, and in your state.

The only real problem I have with it so far is that while playing online, some servers have custom tracks in their rotation that are just plain

Blu-Ray wins

In case you guys have missed the news, it is pretty much assured that Blu-Ray will win the HD format war. Sony currently has 70% support for it, and Toshiba is feeling the pain. I feel really bad for all the HD-DVD player owners, apparently December was their biggest selling month so far. I heard rumor that Microsoft has cancelled their Xbox360 Ultimate because of this news, it would have had an HD-DVD player built-in. Looks like PS3 owners will be rejoicing, and sales should start to climb now. It is, afterall, the cheapest Blu-Ray player on the market.

Just today I recieved Kung Fu Hustle on Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray really is great, I love it. HD movies are just so much better, you have no idea. I think Shooter has so far been the best HD movie I have seen, the explosions and scenery just looked amazing. I also own the Spiderman trilogy on Blu-Ray, great buy.

The only bad thing about this news is it came one day after I purchased Transformers. Originally I wasn't going to buy it, because it wa...

What I learned in Lost Wages(aka Las Vegas)

Just got back from LV, what an experience. I was staying at Planet Hollywood which just opened a little over a month ago. If you are heading that way, PH isn't a bad spot. Whether you want to throw the dice, shop, or see a show... you can do it all at PH. I will say that other spots are noticeably classier, but that's just my taste talking. I prefered the skirt suits at MGM to the boobs hanging out at PH. Anyway... what did I learn...

1. Poker is only fun if you keep relaxed. It's a game, not a trial.
2. Asians LOVE poker. And they tend to be aggressive.
3. Black people always seem tired at the poker table.
4. Despite being the largest minority in America, at least half of the hispanics I saw where outside handing out flyers to tittie bars.
5. Slots are a scam. You cannot win with anything less than a jackpot, and you won't ever hit.
6. Everything is huge in Vegas. You can see the MGM from the steps outside PH, and it looks close... but it's not. It's a long walk.
7. Traffic is awful and the ...

A holiday to remember

I have a friend who has been having a hard time dealing with her boyfriend passing away. A couple of nights ago, she attempted suicide by swallowing a lot of pills. After she took the pills, she wondered why she was doing it and called 911. She was rushed to the hospital where she quickly fell into a coma.

Normal levels of tylenol are around 40. Dangerous levels are around 100. She was nearing 600. The doctors were prepping everything to fly her to Seattle where she would receive an emergency liver transplant. The high amount of drugs in her system were off the charts and the doctors didn't think anything except liver failure. Well, she never made it to Seattle.

Luckily for her, she has a loving family and wonderful friends. Within hours people around the nation were praying for her. Her blood pressure came down and here drug levels dropped off. All checks on the liver were normal and she was checked out of the hospital within 40 hours. This is not normal at all and the doctors said it w...

Burying the Xbox in my Sony box

After hours of trying to fix my Xbox360, I have given up. While enjoying many hours of play on the Xbox I started hearing more and more stories of Xbox's dying. I had hoped this wouldn't happen, but eventually it did. My Xbox was out of commission for the last couple of months as I prepared to attempt the only fix I know of that might get it going again.

I have since buried the Xbox in the box my new PS3 came in. Sony doesn't come out and say it, but stress tests have shown that the PS3 could be renamed the Cockroach. Simple fact is, Microsoft made a design error when everyone thought it was Sony making errors. Now Microsoft sales are down and Sony's sales are up. There might be millions of xbox's sold, but there are probably tens of thousands already in the grave, if not hundreds of thousands. The problem is pointed out in every gaming magazine and every fansite, even ones devoted to the xbox.

After a couple hours on the PS3, I can already see that it is far superior in many ways to th...

Hellgate: London

Ok it might be early to be writing a review for the game. It is in Alpha testing, afterall. And I really can't say anything about the game, so I can't say why I like it. All I can really tell you is that I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition.

I love the devs at Flagship Studios, they've been good to the community. I can't wait till the game comes out, it's going to be exciting. It's a whole new game... a game like this just hasn't ever really been done. People want to say it's like Diablo but really it isn't. Random level generation isn't new to shooters, and really the only thing similar is going to be the random item system.

The thing that first got my hooked on the game, however, seems to have been accurate. Bill Roper said the problem with Diablo was that the perspective couldn't immerse you into the moment. Moving the gameplay into a much closer, tighter camera really changes the way you feel about the action you are a part of. Being rushed by dozens of zombies at the same t...

Power of Influence

The greatest power in the universe is the ability to change something. Each one of us has this power, the power to influence everything. I'm not talking about the sphere of influence that some people talk about, I'm talking about everything. You may only directly impact the environment within reach, but that influence passes on. It continues because your impact gives birth to other impacts. This is cause and effect, a basic principle. I want to apply this principle to society, to mankind.Anything we say, do, or think can influence another person. Belief is the strongest purpose people have in their lives, we all have it. That belief directly influences our actions and words. Impacting a person's belief creates a hesitation, a moment of doubt because their world was just shaken. For that moment they look inside and the only thing that matters, the only thing that exists is themself. They feel vulnerable. This can be a critical point in someone's life, and you never know how long this mo...

Man and Consequence

Man is forced into a life of consequence. If he were able, he would sit on a mountain and contemplate the movements of the wind. But he cannot. In time he would grow hungry and die, for even though he does nothing to influence, other things might influence him. So he is forced to act, he must eat.Eating requires food. Food requires money. To gain money, you must work. To work, you must eat and be healthy. Thus society is formed, constantly serving others in order to live. We feed others in order to feed ourselves, and are a community in so doing. However, not everyone feels giving is as necessary as taking, and thus down the road more consequence is handed to us without our influence. You may lose your job for no reason other than being the last hired and cutbacks being made.Once again, you are put in a situation of desperation. While your options are limitless, each has their own consequence. An honest job is not the only means to wealth, but other options may gain increased risk to y...

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes

Vanguard had a shakey launch. It was at the same time as WoW's expansion, which reinforced its position in the market as dominant leader. Further, reviewers complained and developers agreed that the game wasn't even complete. I for one did not jump to the idea of trying this game. However, one of those reviews did say that although it has had a rough start, the game shows great promise. So eventually I did pick it up to try it.

While they are still continually patching the game for balance and additions, the game has much to offer. This game is nothing like WoW, in fact it can be more comparable to DAoC and EQ. Leveling is a grind, but there is more to do than level. While crafting in other games offered up a rich player economy and ways to get loot without combat, crafting in Vanguard goes further. You can craft player housing, you can craft boats, and more. While the economy right now is not so rich(being flooded with newbie gear since everyone is a newbie still), it will be huge ...

Firelight has a mix of female and male vocals, not the usual but it works well. Day of Fire sounds like that missing link between classic rock and modern rock.
Supreme Commander

When I first read about this game it sounded awfully complicated. When I read reviews after it's release, it offered lots of information that led me to believe it would be a game I enjoyed, so I purchased it. Lately I have done very little PC gaming and thought for sure I was done with it since no good games were ever coming out again it seemed. This game defies the rest.

In all the reviews there are only 2 negative remarks. One is that the campaigns in this game start slowly as you can only use basic units in the beginning. I find this actually a good thing because there are lots of units and buildings to learn in this RTS which involves land, air, and navy units all at the same time. On top of that you need to learn the custom UI that is well organized and actually pretty sophisticated. If you have two monitors, you can split the UI across both having a tactical map on one side and a zoomed in map on the other.

The other negative remark is the impact this game has on your syste...

Crackdown

The quickest way to describe Crackdown is to say it's like Grand Theft Auto, except you are the cops. But you aren't just any cop, you are a super agent.

As far as sandbox games go, this one is the newest yet the least featured. You do not customize your character in any way, you do not own anything, and your goals are fairly simply and straightforward. There is very little to this game really. The character development may be something new but it's entirely automated, it wouldn't make any difference if it weren't visible at all.

Sound boring? Well it can be once you get a handle on it. Once I was able to get a grenade launcher, I found it terribly easy to kill a crime boss. Just jump in and unload as many grenades as possible then shoot him while he's down. Killing anyone else is just for fun, adds nothing to the game.

The only really redeeming factor for this game is the physics, explosions are lots of fun. I heard prior to purchasing this game that many people gave up on th...

The Number 23

I can't see how this movie won't win awards. When I first saw the trailer to it, I knew I wanted to see it. Jim Carrey is breaking out of his comedy role and right into serious roles that you wouldn't think to ever see him in. He proves in this movie he can do it, and he did a good job of it.

From the opening credits to the end credits, this movie was just top notch. You got to know the main character from the beginning, but you never knew more than he did. I love mystery movies, especially ones like this that really keep the truth hidden from even us, the spectator. Even I could not figure this one out till the end, and even when revealed the story was not over. It was a very interesting and well done

300

I was really, really looking forward to this movie. More so than any other this year. I find myself somewhat disappointed, and I don't think it was because I hyped myself up too much.

The way the movie plays out is like the telling of a story from an old war veteran. It was quite exaggerated and even ridiculous at times. Then again, this is based on a true story that many historians believe to have been exaggerated and even ridiculous at times. Who could believe the story of 1300 men versus an army of 1 million?

Even so, I thought it was a great idea for a movie, and the exaggerations made sense if you looked at it from that point of view. These things I found to be good marks of the movie, it was in fact the artistic side of the film that brought me to the theater. The colors, the lighting, the story telling, the whole scene... it was great.

The things that brought this down and ultimately kept the movie from perfection were the cheesey scenes that went beyond reason. The sex...

The Tomb of Jesus

A hot story lately is the find of a tomb which some believe to be the final resting place of Jesus the Christ. I find myself both curious and skeptical, but I may be bias. This being such a hot topic, I decided to do a little research on this. I had the idea that this is nothing new and such claims had already existed, and I was correct. The first site I checked out was appropriately named tombofjesus.com. It was a certainly interesting read of the documents they have available, although none of their evidence seems to indicate their tomb is that of Jesus. The story of the saintly prince reminds me of the rich man that asked Jesus how to get to heaven, perhaps he took the answer that the Messiah told him to heart? The second site I found was a website claiming that Jesus was buried in Japan. I am more skeptical of this because the original documents were conveniently destroyed. Sounds like something that could make for a great national treasure kind of movie.
